Tova25 Featured On Ravenwood Creative Blog

"The Internet is full of cool sites to explore and hopefully interact with, as I think that’s the goal of any site, you want the user to take some sort of action, whether it’s just learning something or playing a game or buying something, to often corporations forget that the web is an interactive media.

To show you what can be done if you merge design with function - I just wanted to share a cool site friends of mine from my QVC days have put together for a client - Tova Borgnine - the site is Tova25. Designed to help Tova celebrate 25 years of her fragrance line, the site has everything from her OSCAR-award-winning actor and husband, Ernest Borgnine to QVC and others that have influenced her fragrance are here in a slick, yet elegantly simple, timeline interface.

It’s interface is cutting-edge, a truly multimedia experience on the web for something, like fragrance, that would challenge most of us to present in such an eye-catching and dramatic fashion. Until they invent, the “Scent Internet” this is the way to promote a brand and its essence.

So a shout out to Tim Megaw and Matt Shadbolt for a job well done. Do you know any cool site that are out there using the latest in video, audio and graphics? Let me know and we’ll share them here."

Recently Completed: Tova25.com

In collaboration with Mulberry Consulting, Algorithm has just completed the design and build of cosmetics celebrity (and wife of Ernest), Tova Borgnine's interactive archival site, Tova25.com. Designed towards recording and documenting the past 25 years of her Signature fragrance, the site integrates both still and video content through the use of the lightbox.js and heavybox.js scripts.

Unwrapping QVC's New Brand Campaign

Here's one close to my heart - QVC just unwrapped it's new branding campaign, as the press would have us believe, 'trying to own the 17th letter of the alphabet'. Some nice typography and the overall creative elements look great, but I just didnt quite get it... Good to see them being a little adventurous though, I hope it works out for them.

"But why Augusten... why?"

A few posts ago I posted the trailer for 'Running With Scissors', a movie based on the novel of the same name, the autobiography of Augusten Burroughs. Ever since I saw this wonderful film I have been hooked on his writings, first starting with 'Dry', the tale of his alcoholism and subsequent trip to rehab. I then tore through 'Sellevision', which I was stunned by how accurate this was, having been able to empathize with all of the home shopping references because of my five years at QVC. I was so into this I spent a recent weekend reading the entire thing, a rarity even for a bookworm like myself. I'm currently working my way through 'Magical Thinking', a collection of (true) short stories.

If you haven't tried any of his books, I can highly recommend them. Very accessible, and written brilliantly. Living in Manhattan and working in advertising, there's lots of references I recognize, especially when he spends time describing locations in Hell's Kitchen (where I used to live), and his tales of dealing with difficult clients and bosses are so perfectly accurate.

I hope they make movies out of all the books, it's been a while since I've been so disappointed to finish reading something.

Mulberry Consulting

Interactive electronic retailing and gaming.
www.mulberryconsulting.com

Algorithm Design is currently working with Mulberry Consulting on a number of upcoming interactive television projects. Mulberry's Tim Megaw has spent over twenty years in broadcasting management, most recently with QVC as a Senior Vice President of Broadcasting and TV Sales. Responsible for all on-air aspects of QVC US over the last six years and of QVC UK for four years before that, Tim has directed much of the TV success of the company over the last decade. Tim's achievements are many and include the design, development and launch of the world's first interactive shopping channel, the launch of QVCUK.com, the first "Video on Demand" shopping experience (on Comcast Cable) and many interactive and retail features that have helped QVC US distance itself from its competition and helped guide it to the six billion dollar company it is today.

Tim now runs his own consulting firm that enables other companies to leverage interactive TV technologies for gaming and retail. His experience and many contacts within the field can help you achieve the highest standards in electronic, interactive and retail technologies.
